I'm going to start off saying that neither build is straight up better than the other - it's really up to preference of playstyle. They do have unique advantages / disadvantages over each other, but one isn't clearly the better build.Shadow:.More versatile and party utility friendly. Your best damage comes from decoy stance LB RB F (or RB F during blue buff / soulburn), but you can still do decent damage if you need to stay in stealth for a little while. You also have more immediate access to party decoy and smoke screen skills for dungeon play.This build can be used for tower and pvp. Tower of Infinity doesn't let you just permastealth, so lightning loses out heavily until we get to a point where you just blow stuff up in 10 seconds (at which point lightning would be ok) - you need to do shadow until then for ToI.

In PvP, the general playstyle is a combo build. Which relies on chaining CC's and doing damage while out of stealth (LB RB spam with close shave or LB RB F spam with dark strike). That out of stealth damage is mostly shadow.Easier to master. Shadow requires less precise ani-canceling and is easier to stack and keep 5 poison stacks up. You are also not limited to only being in stealth to do damage.Lightning:.If played perfectly with low ping and very good ani-cancel. You should have higher dps with this build.

Most people don't have the ping to do this - basically anything higher than about 20 ping is too much.Extra movement speed/evasion/Crit damage stats while in stealth. Since your damage comes from stealth, it's going to always be up.Your black tower elemental accessories are less contested for. The only other class that uses lightning right now is BD. BMs all go fire and shadow is the more popular build for NA/EU, so less competition from fellow sins for lightning accessories. This isn't so much a feature of the lightning build, but just something to keep in mind.Overall, i think both builds are strong.

But lightning is a lot harder to master. On the surface it looks easier because of permastealth. But keeping up the poison stacks and having perfect ani-cancel between your 4 and RB is not easy. You'll likely want to stick with lightning until you get all your HM skills. And then at that point try shadow for a bit to see if you like it better. In the end, just play the build you like to play.

I've been playing shadow build since 45 patch when it wasn't even good yet due to a lot of missing HM skills. But it's been fun all along.For badges, you need the Red enhanced Q badge for 6v6 pvp. But for PvE you want the Holy Fire Blue badge.

The dark ani-cancel does become significantly slower for the period of time that 5 poison stacks aren't on the boss - but that's why your rotation includes the skills to stack it up to 5 ASAP to start doing your normal ani-cancel again. Sometimes it's as simple as using Choke bomb to instantly stack 5 as the other 5 are expiring. Other times it's use venom slash (2) + Z bomb (1) + sidewinder (1) or hook kick (1) + X dagger (1) or venom pierce (1) and then using lightning rod to get out of stealth and back to ani-cancel.

Knowing how to stack poisons efficiently is what both builds need to know how to do. But you are right. It does hurt dark more if you try to ani-cancel without 5 poisons. Many BMs are actually opting to go lightning. Just a month ago with the RMB atk speed buff, in the hongmoon training room against stg 1 turtle; fire killed in 1min 17 sec, where lightning killed 1min 20sec. The difference in KR isnt huge at all, hence why lightning bms over there didnt switch ele as of yet.When it comes to our patch, if you play lightning now you're gutting yourself hard and being heavy weight in party. But if you get 5bt / 3 msp and have full lightning ele accs, you'll be doing a little less than fire, as BiS for fire now is bt + magnum badge, and lightning have the buff from #4 already built-in.In TW, the difference between lightning and fire is very minimal too, according to several streamers - the difference is like 10%.

Not sure if they have fulmination buff on LMB flicker. At the current moment lightning does slightly higher personal dps than dark does with perfect play.In the future it all comes down to preference.

Lightning will continue to do more solo dps but dark build will have higher burst and more blue buff uptime.As for gear focus on getting 5set msp soul shields with crit infusions. Get a pinnacle bracelet and either an elemental earring or a hongmoon earring and the pinnacle earring gives up a ton of stats. Then work on getting your weapon to stage 4 and hopefully open up some gem slots. Badge wise you either get holy fire blue badge or the venom Pierce green badge that lowers time bomb cd for dark and light build respectively. Get comfortable at using both builds, I use lightning a lot for SSP, MSP, Naksun farming (build some cc's in between), and any content where you have trouble stacking poison (dark strike falls off very badly in bosses like lair where the bosses reset debuffs).

I use dark strike for most dungeons, (build some cc's) for ToI, and general purpose. Bombard is also very useful for areas where you'll need crowd clear but I don't suggest bossing with it unless you're clearing ads with that.As far as gear goes, I highly suggest finishing up getting at least 5 msp pieces and getting Oblivion pieces with them. Getting the blue buff soul badge or the soul badge for your Q is highly recommended (Q is great for 4 man's and harder content and 6v6's, and blue buff soul badge for more blue buff). What is the proper rotation and which hm lmb should I be using? With 65% critical rate I still run into focus issues even with spamming che recovering skills. The old HM LMB left side used to guarantee a crit on rmb when your lmb crit, essentially giving you a dark strike guaranteed and the 1 focus recovery on crit from hm rmb.

Since it was changed to be on lmb crit, proc dark strike, it was essentially a focus nerf, since you still got the dark strike, but not the 1 focus recovery. LMB all comes down to preference, some people prefer right side for venom pierce, but personally i prefer left side because a) it gives you a higher chance to be able to keep spamming lmb rmb f instead of having to lmb rmb, and if your rmb doesn't crit, you need to lmb rmb again, and b) (which sort of ties in to your focus issue) you can just hook kick and rmb f for venom pierce, which shouldn't take more than 3 rb f's, and then you can exit with lightning rod. Your best best for focus recovery is abusing your lightning rod, the cd was lowered to 12 seconds, so just about every 10 seconds of poison should be accompanied with a lightning rod. If rod is down for some reason, you can use shadow drain and break stealth with tab, use smoke screen, or you can spam shiruken while you lmb rmb f, but be careful with that because shiruken shares a global cd with decoy, so if you just used shiruken, you won't be able to instantly react with a decoy if you need to.
